Japanese Breaded Thin Pork Chops
Indulge in these crispy Japanese Breaded Thin Pork Chops that are crazy delicious with an amazing texture!
Ingredients
- 4 thin pork chops, boneless (about ¼ lb each)
- 1¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp ground black pepper
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1½ cups panko breadcrumbs
- 2 cups oil (use neutral oil so as not to affect the flavor)
Instructions
- Pat dry the pork chops with paper towels. Score the white fat cap, cutting through it about every ½ inch to prevent the meat from curling when cooking later. Season with salt and pepper. Then place the chops in a ziplock bag. Tenderize by pounding with a mallet or the back of your knife until they are around ¼-inch thick.
- Prepare 3 shallow bowls or dishes. In the 1st bowl, add your flour. In the 2nd bowl, add eggs and whisk well. In the 3rd bowl, add panko breadcrumbs.
- Dredge the chops one by one through flour, eggs, and panko breadcrumbs in this order. Make sure to coat both sides, shaking off any excess, before moving to the next bowl. Place the coated chops on a separate plate or baking dish to get ready for frying.
- Add enough oil to a skillet over medium-high heat until about ⅓-inch deep and let it reach 350°F (177°C). Use tongs and slide the chops into the oil and fry until brown, around 2 minutes. Flip and cook the other side for around another 2 minutes. Flip back again to the first side and cook until it's browned evenly, about a minute more. Flip to the 2nd side again and do the same. Don't overcrowd the pan, fry in batches if needed. Transfer fried pork chops to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb the excess oil. Season with salt if desired.
- Drizzle katsu sauce or Worcestershire sauce and serve with thinly-shredded cabbage and rice to enjoy a classic Japanese meal!
